How can architecture create dignified, scalable, and sustainable living conditions in one of Nairobi’s most constrained informal settlements?
Enso
INSTALLATION, LANDART (2019)
Project Description
Enso by its Buddhistic definition: circle of togetherness. Symbolizing the strength of the ice, elegance of phragmites, and one-mindedness of the partnership “Voume” formed with a dear friend and collaborator of this piece. The idea came effortlessly when we found the phragmites on a small frozen pond. I wanted to create a circle, my partner wanted to slice it in half. Collected the phragmites, and organized them by height. Using a screwdriver and a rock we made holes in the ice in the shape of a circle, placing the phragmites. We created a simple structure under the category of land art, the phragmites stood through the wind as the ice wrapped and secured the stems.
