How can architecture create dignified, scalable, and sustainable living conditions in one of Nairobi’s most constrained informal settlements?
Ice Between Two
INSTALLATION, LANDART (2019)
Project Description
Ice between two explores how our natural environment operates at an architectural scale, and what within the natural environment can become an object?
This came as a structural problem hoping to create a frozen moment in time. As the natural environment is expressive and nothing that resides in it is permanent, ice seemed to be the only form of expression that was stable enough to work with. Done during the winter, the lake at Hudson NY was frozen and chipping away some of its thick and dense ice I was able to stack it vertically between two trees. In a way this was an igloo project at a smaller scale, but the physicality of working with hands made a performance of human to nature interaction that wasn't destructive.
